Cholesterol is an additive for shrimp feed, it is an essential molecule for the synthesis of molting hormones, sex hormones, bile acids, vitamin D and is a building block of shrimp tissues. Cholesterol cannot be metabolised by the shrimp， therefore it has to be added to the shrimp feed. Cholesterol can be added directly to shrimp feed as ingredients, and the dosage for cholesterol used in shrimp feed is recommended at 0.3% around.
