Properties: Ficoll, white crystalline powder. Soluble in water. Stable in neutral and alkaline solutions. Hydrolysis breakdown at pH<3. Sucrose and epichlorohydrin were used as raw materials, sucrose and 3-chloro-1, 2-epichlorohydrin copolymerized to produce a synthetic water-soluble polymer, which was widely used as the medium for density gradient centrifugation. It can also be used as an inert carrier for low molecular weight haptens in immunological research.

Ficoll - 400, which has a molecular weight of 400, 000, is used to keep the osmotic pressure down, but its viscosity is particularly high, so it is often mixed with meglutamide to reduce the viscosity. It is mainly used to isolate various kinds of cells, including blood cells, fibroblasts, tumor cells, mouse liver cells, etc.
