Magnesium hydroxide is a non-absorbent antacid, which is not absorbed by the digestive tract at all or is absorbed only in very small amounts and has no systemic effect. Magnesium hydroxide has a similar Chemicalbook effect to magnesium oxide. The reaction with hydrochloric acid is slow and long-lasting. Magnesium hydroxide that remains in the stomach without reacting with hydrochloric acid may react with newly secreted hydrochloric acid. Has the same laxative effect as magnesium oxide.
